How do I ... Donate Books

Donations of the following used materials in good condition are accepted at any time during regular library hours:

• Hardback and paperback books for adults and children
• Encyclopedias no more than 2 years old
• Media, including CDs, DVDs, and audiobooks

Receipts will be given for the number of items donated; no value will be given.

Not accepted

• Magazines
• Reader’s Digest Condensed Books
• Comic books, newspapers, pamphlets
• Encyclopedias over 2 years old
• Any materials in poor condition
• Textbooks

What does the library do with donations?

Some of the donated books are added to the library’s collection. Best sellers and books by popular authors are added to the collection so the library may offer customers more copies. Others replace worn or damaged books. Books that are on the Washington Twp. Public Schools summer reading lists are also put into the library’s collection.

The library also passes books along to other non-profit organizations. Some books go to prisons or hospitals, and others are given to Mother’s Cupboard and Robin’s Nest.

Most of the books that are donated to the library are sold through book sales by the Friends of the Library.
